Day Hike in Woodside / La Honda

It’s been quite some time since Otto took us on a nice, long hike…finally, this past weekend, with sunshine in the forecast, he finally did! 😜

My husband found a dog-friendly trail in La Honda, which is in the southern part of San Mateo County, with gorgeous redwood forests and open spaces. This trail does require a no-fee parking permit, which we were able to secure 3 days before (link to the trail and permit application site will be listed below).

Quick note: only the Upper La Honda Creek trail allows dogs.

The entire hike lasted about 2 hours for us. We took our time with water breaks, snack breaks, and of course, I needed to photograph Otto and my family! When we left, there were four other cars in the parking lot and it really felt like we had the whole space to ourselves! What a luxury it is in the Bay Area these days!

We highly recommend this trail if you are looking for something that’s off the beaten path and away from crowds! 😊

PS. For those of you with both furry and furless children: the biggest change to our lifestyle these days is that my 22-month old human daughter, Mina, finally outgrew her morning nap. This means she doesn’t get fussy for a good 5-6 hours after waking up in the morning, and that we’re finally able to have longer morning outings! Otto, her patient big brother, has been waiting for this day to come! 🎉
