Pop-Up Dog Photo Session in Half Moon Bay
A few times a year, we offer outdoor Pop-Up Sessions for dog owners who seek a smaller collection of final images. In February, we held a beach session in Half Moon Bay for three adorable dogs: Mylo the West Highland White Terrier, Thor the Coton de Tulear, and Enzo the French Bulldog. I came home with sand in my hair (and mouth) which is always a good indicator that the session was successful!
I had been monitoring the weather and knew we would have a gorgeous low-tide day with partial clouds in the sky. Lo and behold, when my assistant, Wilson, and I showed up at the beach…it was 100% overcast! I was envisioning warm sun rays peeking through the clouds, but instead, we were dealt with a more monochromatic and soft look, so we just embraced it!
Each pup had a 30-minute session and the first one up was Mylo! We met before heading down to the beach so we were able to capture him on the retaining rock wall—his mom aptly named this shot “King Mylo on his throne.” I get such a good kick out of it when owners give a name to one of my photographs! As we head down to the beach, we captured more portraits of Mylo, as well as some action shots and candid moments with mom.
Our next doggy model was Thor! I have photographed him in a studio setting before so I knew he is full of expressions and I wanted to capture that—and he totally delivered! From a dramatic #TOT to smiling to serious Thor, he gave me all! I absolutely adore the way he looks at his mom when they walked down the beach together. Ah, another wonderful session!
As the invisible sun started to go down even lower, we have Enzo the Frenchie! I’ve know this handsome nugget since he was a puppy and I am so happy his mom and I kept in touch throughout the years! Enzo is no stranger to the camera—his mom photographs and curates a beautiful gallery of Enzo on Instagram—and she always brings creative ideas for us to collaborate on! This time was no different, the last image of Enzo against a black backdrop was her vision and I’m thrilled we were able to create this at the beach!
